B2B Opportunities Exist On Google

Posted by

Selling a massive piece of machinery should be as much a part of search marketing as selling a consumer good like the iPhone.

A few years back when we talked affiliate marketing with eBay, we ended on a note about industrial and similar businesses that could make more of their online marketing efforts, but for myriad reason did not. Search marketing offers potential returns a B2B firm should consider.

The KoMarketing Associates blog showed seven ways search marketing, with Google as the central theme, promise so much for the business to business market. For starters, they recommend a B2B company enter its products into Google Base.

Did Googlers Upload Viacom Videos To YouTube?

Posted by

Viacom wants to know if anyone with Google or YouTube happened to push some of the content company’s work onto the video sharing site.

Those who have been concerned about privacy and the idea of Viacom perusing YouTube viewing records include a distinct group of insiders, who may have more reason than most to be concerned about uploads of South Park or The Colbert Report.

CNET said Google is digging in against Viacom after a judge ordered Google to hand over private viewing data. Google wants to anonymize it first, but failed to hammer out an agreement with Viacom on doing so with regards to YouTube employees.

eBay Wins Counterfeit Suit

Posted by

eBay has won a major legal victory today, after a federal judge ruled that Tiffany was not able to prove the online auction company was responsible for the sale of counterfeit Tiffany jewelry on its Web site.

The 2004 lawsuit brought by Tiffany in U.S. District Court in New York and the ruling in eBay’s favor could influence how business is done online.

Tiffany claimed that eBay ignored the sale of fake Tiffany silver jewelry on its site. eBay said the jeweler did not participate in eBay programs that help brand owners prevent fraud.

Microsoft: Both sides in Yahoo / Icahn spat have it wrong

Posted by

In one of the more bizarre responses in a three-way merger deal fracas since the Viacom/Paramount/Blockbuster deal of the early 1990s, a Microsoft statement this afternoon — ostensibly to refute some of the details described in a Yahoo statement early Sunday morning — also manages to separate Microsoft’s point of view from that of financier Carl Icahn. Specifically, the statement characterizes Icahn as exacerbating a deal that Microsoft was trying to put together at the request of Yahoo Chairman Roy Bostock, not the other way around.

Apple claims 1M iPhone 3Gs sold, some may be vouchers

Posted by

One by one on Friday, not individual AT&T stores, but entire cities, reported selling out of the device. By mid-morning, Chicago AT&T stores reported total liquidation. By noon, all of New York City’s had sold out.

Hours-long lines reportedly continued at Apple Stores throughout the weekend in the 21 countries in which it has premiered. Due to the extensive activation time, and the numerous down-times the system experienced, many users were sent home with a voucher instead of an iPhone.Others who actually obtained one, complained that the screens of their 3G iPhones were “too yellow,” wondering if something was wrong with their displays. In answer to the big question mark hovering over these users’ heads, Apple’s senior director of Product Marketing Bob Borchers spoke to Engadget. He said that the screen’s temperature had been deliberately set to a warmer level to produce “more natural” tones, with deeper blacks. Some, however, believed it was a flaw.

Yahoo to Microsoft: No Thanks!

Posted by

Yahoo formally rejected a proposal from Microsoft and Carl Icahn in a statement issued on Saturday.

They had been given 24 hours to reach a decision by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer on Friday night. They reached a decision, but probably not the one that Ballmer and Icahn were looking for.

Yahoo says that its advertising deal with Google offers “superior financial value, reports Kyung Bok Cho at Bloomberg.

Yahoo Chairman Roy Bostock has said that the alliance between Microsoft and Icahn has “anything but the interests of Yahoo’s stockholders in mind…it’s ludicrous to think that our board could accept such a proposal”.

Fake Steve Jobs Retires

Posted by

Fake Steve Jobs, outed some time ago as Forbes’ Daniel Lyons, is retiring his satirical blog “The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs” thus ending one of the more enduring runs as pop Web iCon.

In a post titled “I’m sailing away,” Lyons says he’ll be launching a new site next week, perhaps reincarnating Fake Steve as Fake Somebody Else. His new form will be sitting at a desk at Newsweek.

Lyons doesn’t go into detail about the closure of the site, but if he is reinventing himself at Newsweek, the “A Forbes.com Site” at the top of the blog could be trouble for at least a couple of people.

eBay Drops PayPal Only Plan In Australia

Posted by

eBay Australia has officially dropped its proposal to move to a PayPal only system in the country.

eBay’s decision comes after sellers expressed their anger last week at a conference held by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) on the company’s plans to only accept PayPal on the site.

The new plan would have forced sellers to pay fees to PayPal Australia on top of the fees they pay to eBay.

After the conference, eBay said it would continue to allow sellers to accept other payment methods, but they had to offer PayPal as an option.

Google, Facebook Release iPhone Applications

Posted by

Whether you love the device or hate it, stories about the iPhone are going to be hard to escape for a few weeks. Google and Facebook appear to fall into that first category, and have added to the hubbub by releasing iPhone-specific applications.

iPhones are able to browse the Web, of course, so at first glance, these apps look a little bit redundant. Their existence speaks to the popularity of the iPhone, though, along with corporate desires to please the device’s user base. And the apps do offer a few new tricks.
